It has been quite a full year as with many changes in my world and across the world. 2016 saw amazing things like the birth of my son and sad things like the deaths of David Bowie, Prince, Sharon Jones, Leon Russell, Leonard Cohen, Kenny Baker, Gene Wilder, Arnold Palmer, Bernie Worrell, Merle Haggard, Guy Clark, Gary Shandling, Abe Vigoda, Paul Kantner, Glenn Fry, Ron Glass and many more. I played my original songs on the largest stage of my career (Main Stage, Merriweather Post Pavillion) with my brothers in Dropping Sully in support of our hometown, Ellicott City, MD. There have been many more ups and down and I know that the year is not out yet.
As 2016 comes to a close we find the ourselves and the USA in need of some seriously healing. So with that I have found renewed purpose in my art. There are so many times that the unspoken connection that music can create has healed me and brought me through things that have been hard. It can bring people together. Singing together with people is one of the most invigorating experiences in my world.
So I challenge you to join voices with people around you as the year comes to a close. Sing with your friends, sing with your family, sing with a stranger. Raise your voice and make a joyful noise. It is sometimes all we can do to be a light for each other in dark and challenging times. Keep singing and be well!
p.s. I will be playing at Reclaimed Rails Brewing Co. in Bondurant on Thursday December 1st from 6 to 9pm! Come out and ease into the holiday season with me. Support local art and artisans!
